Wholesale Price Index (WPI) :India
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) measures the price movement at the wholesale level in India. It is calculated on a weekly basis
The WPI is based on Laspeyres formula
The wholesale price as defined as the quoted price of bulk transaction both for agricultural commodities as well as for manufactured goods
The current WPI has taken the base year as 1993-94
The basket of goods and services used for the calculation of the WPI fall under three broad categories - Primary articles, Fuel, Power, Light & Lubricants, Manufactured Products - and are as below:
